Yoko Ono's "My Mommy is Beautiful" (Hirshhorn Museum, 2017)

After discussing Project Four - Public Intervention today, I was reminded of a trip I took to DC two summers ago and an installment I came across in the Hirshhorn Museum. Yoko Ono's "My Mommy is Beautiful" was a three-month installment in the Hirshhorn's lobby. Visitors of the museum were prompted to post photos and handwritten notes (paper and pens were provided) that acknowledged their intimate memories and relationships with their mothers.

According to this article from the Smithsonian, 20,000 messages had been posted on the wall after two months on display.

Various iterations of the project have been installed since 2004. While the project is not currently on display, there is a website mymommyisbeautiful.com which displays social media interactions with the project.

As someone who engaged with the project (above image is my own), the feelings of intimacy felt from this project inspire me to consider ways to make an impactful and interactive intervention for the final project.
