Tracy Featherstone’s Wearable Structures
As I was researching different
ways to create my own wearable piece, I can across Tracy Featherstone’s
Wearable Structures exhibit. All of her pieces in the series are mainly made
out of wood. She uses wood in a stick form to create a variety of geometric
shapes which develop into large sculptures to be worn on the body. Inspiration comes
from “runway
fashion, material investigation, and everyday objects that are made for human
interaction such as furniture and wood.”
The materials, wood and furniture (representing order) contrasts with the position and way it is placed on a body (disorder). Overall, this series probes viewers with the age-old questions of fate versus free will and the illusion of control.
