First Picture of a Black Hole
On
April 10, 2019, scientists revealed the first picture of the black hole.
To capture the
image of a black hole, the scientists used eight radio observatories across the
globe to observe the galaxy on and off for 10 days in April 2017. Then they
embarked on the painstaking effort to process enormous amounts of data and map
it into an image, which included designing, building, and hauling the hardware
to various telescope sites. It took two decades of work to capture the image and accomplish what was previously thought to be
impossible.
